Reviews
This review is for the supermarket, not the restaurant inside. The supermarket is awesome. You can find everything you South American appetite desires. There's lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, a refrigerated section with fresh guacamole, queso, different types of salsa and so much more. As soon as you enter, there is a self-service bakery section with the most delicious empanadas and freshly baked Mexican muffins. Beyond this is a fresh desert and ice cream area. The most delicious Fresca crema is served here, along with a variety of other Jell-O based flan based desserts. The supermarket is well stocked and very clean. There are so many different drinks, many of which I have never seen before. Lychee soda anyone? Yum. The staff here a very sweet and friendly and helpful. It's an absolute pleasure shopping here.
The food is authentic and phenomenal the carne asada is very well seasoned and the aguas frescas are the service is super fast and friendly! The ambiance is amazing! You are surrounded by so much culture and so many yummy things!!
Taco Tuesday at El Molino - be there or be square. You can get this insanely delicious platter of 15 tacos of your choosing inside the taqueria in the supermarket on Tuesdays for $35! Made to order, give yourself time to stroll around the market, pick up some postres & appreciate all of the other goodies! There are several tables and drinks for purchase if you would like to enjoy your meal there, or you can take your platter to go in a pizza box! These tacos are the best you'll find in CHS. This time around, we ordered carnitas, el pastor & chicken. The barbacoa is also delicious!
My wife and I visited Charleston, SC, and our first day she suggested we went to El Molino Supermarket for dinner. I didn't like the idea of having dinner in a supermarket. I was wrong. I had many birrias in Charlotte. NC but was disappointed. The birria in this location was out of this world. I had 3 birria packed with flavor, and the consume more than delicious. My wife had 3 tacos. Everything was so delicious we returned the following day for lunch. I had two boxes of birria and gordita to go. Don't underestimate this restaurant in a supermarket.
Got it! Here's an updated review for El Molino Supermarket that covers food, service, and ambiance: El Molino is easily one of the best spots in Charleston for authentic Mexican food. I stop by often for their birria tacos, and they are always on point--tender, flavorful, and packed with rich broth. Definitely the best birria in town. The service is fast and efficient. It's not a full-service restaurant, but the staff is always friendly and gets orders out quickly. As for ambiance, it's more of a market than a sit-down spot, but that adds to the authenticity. It feels like a hidden gem, and you can also pick up great ingredients to take home. If you're looking for legit Mexican food in Charleston, this is the place!
